Al-`Arabi al-Masihi al-yawm (The Christian Arab today), a report on two conversaziones held by RIIFS in September and December of 1997, was published in 1999 in Arabic. 


A report on the proceedings of the conversazione, The Arab Image in the West, held in association with the Middle East Centre, St. Antony's College, and the Centre for Lebanese Studies, Oxford, was published in 1998 in English and Arabic.

 

 

 

Selected papers presented at the RIIFS conference entitled Christian Perceptions of Islam, Muslim Perceptions of Christianity: The Historical Record are published in the British journal Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations 7, nos. 1-2 (1996).

Ongoing research and publication projects 

 

 

 

Abdul-Rahim Abu Husayn. The Christians of the Arab World in the Ottoman Muhimme Defteri.

Until the establishment of the Ottoman Church Register in 1869, the documents relating to the Christian churches in the Ottoman empire were recorded in the chancery register called the Muhimme Defteri. This research project proposes to edit these documents and translate them into Arabic.

 

 

 

Debra Callaghan, ed. The Benton Papers: Annals of an American Family in Ottoman Syria.

William and Loanza Benton left the United States as missionaries to Syria immediately following their marriage in 1847. Their diaries and letters preserve a vivid record of the life and experiences of an American family in the Middle East from 1847 to 1869.
